Never Having to Explain Yourself

Looking for an explanation to something is not a new concept for today's society. Nor do I think having to explain ourselves is a new idea either. We as humans are curious people, and this includes wanting to know why people feel the way they do. People are constantly posting their views on different things going on in our world today. They have their opinion and we each should have our own, but is there a need to have to explain ourselves on social media?

I think most of us feel the need to explain the things we post, but this really isn’t a necessary thing we should feel obligated to do. If you have read and done your research and formed an opinion, or feel strongly about something, you don’t have to tell others why you feel or think that way.  We should all post what we want to. If you are honest in what you post and how you feel, no explanation should be needed. Even if you do it should be simple because you already know why. Just be true to what you feel and no explanation is needed. I think we should all try to remember this in our social media postings.

Facebook Plan

Facebook URL: https://www.facebook.com/platinumdetailstg

For this semester I will be working on promoting a new business that my friend is starting up here in St. George. It is a mobile detailing service and the company is called Platinum Detail. My goal in doing this is to help get the word out for him and help the business grow and thrive.

Mission Statement:
Platinum Detail is a mobile detailing service for anyone in need of a clean ride. Detailing is offered for cars, trucks, and trailers of any kind. We are committed to excellent service and quality in everything we do. We aim to provide a pleasant and satisfying experience for each of our customers. We abide by honesty and make our services as convenient for you as possible.

3 Persona's:

Mark is 56, a real estate agent who is currently single after loosing his wife a few years back. He has two kids with 5 grand kids. He enjoys being in the outdoors and playing golf every chance he gets. He enjoys hiking and going for scenic drives when he can. He uses social media to establish dating ties, keep updates on his children and grandchildren, and stay in touch with friends.

Shela is 34, married with four kids under the age of fifteen. She is a stay at home mom who keeps busying taking care of her children and keeping the house orderly. Her and her family love to go hiking and be in the outdoors. The whole family is very active in sports, and she is constantly running kids from one practice to another. Her social ties share ideas on how to's, recipes, and ways to relieve stress. She finds these ideas, and keeps in contact with close friends and other mothers through Face book.

Joseph is 23, attending Dixie State University earning a degree in Business. He is single and currently dating to find his significant other. He enjoys hunting, fishing, and going off-roading in his truck. He basically lives out of his truck because he is always on the go. Joseph uses social media to stay connected with friends back home, to look for possible dates, as well as to share his fun adventures that he has.

Strategies:
There are a lot of strategies I can use to help make this page successful. The first thing I want to do is create a relationship. I plan on doing this by introducing the owners on the page with pictures. This way they will be able to know who is working on their cars and a little bit about them. I also plan on asking questions that will require feedback. This not only builds a relationship, but can also help give us a better idea of what the customers want.
I plan on being consistent with posts, and want to put out 2-3 a week. The posts will range from showing our appreciation to customers to inviting participation, and tips and tricks. I also want to post about our goals and the success of the company. I plan on also using pictures and videos to make the page compelling. I can do before and after pictures, videos of how simple tasks are done, how much the owners enjoy their job, etc. I think doing all of these things, a long with making adjustments as I go, will help make this page compelling and help the business grow and become successful.

Double Standards

Listening to "On the Media" by Brook Gladstone really gave me a better idea of why we have heard all about Charlie Hebdo and whats going on in France, but nothing about what is happening in Nigeria. There is a lot of things the news could choose to cover, but they decide what is worthy or not of covering. While listening to that clip, one speaker mentioned the idea that terrorism happens in Nigeria a lot, where as it rarely occurs in France. For this reason, what is happening in France is being covered by the media everywhere, and we hear nothing about Nigeria. It's also interesting to point out that why isn't the Nigerian government speaking out about what is going on? You would think they want help because of what is happening. They themselves could be part of the problem and that is why they have chosen to be hush hush about what is going on.
Another speaker from "On the Media" talked about how there is different versions of terror. Some are much easier to talk about while others aren't. What is happening in France could be easier to form an opinion on, but also more relatable for some people. There are stories of actual people in France that some could relate too, where as in Nigeria it is more of the same news that we hear about going on all the time. What is happening in France is something new, something more out of the ordinary, and because of this and the reasons stated above, that is why I think we have heard more about France then what is happening in Nigeria.

Social Networking and Stabilization

Social media and networking have already helped shaped and stabilize the world, and I think will continue to do so. The social media we have lets us network and communicate with people from all over the world. People can become famous, businesses can spread, ideas, thoughts and feeling can all be expressed. Social networking makes it possible for all of this to be able to happen. At the touch of our fingertips we are able to communicate and see what people, and things are happening anywhere in the globe. People can share ideas on how to improve different aspects of life. People at the top are sharing how they got to where they did. People at the bottom can look at this and maybe see changes they need to make to improve their situations. Being able to communicate with different people on different aspects of life makes it easier for everyone to see where they need improvement. Just as we talked about in class, people in less developed countries are now using social networking to find ways to improve their lives. This is an example of how social media can help stabilize the world. By being able to communicate and talk with people from all different circumstances, individuals can make changes and help shape and stabilize the world into a better place.
